Christopher Wakeley recently retired after serving for 24 years as the Democratic Executive Director and Senior Policy Analyst of the Pennsylvania House Education Committee. In addition to his work on the Committee he served on numerous legislative commissions including the Basic and Special Education Funding Commissions, PLANCON Reform Commission and Higher Education Funding Commission.
During his nearly 35 years of pubic service, Wakeley also served as a Policy Analyst for the House Speaker and the Democratic Policy Chairman where he worked on health, education, housing and economic development issues including legislation that established the Children Health Insurance Program (CHIP). He also served as a Senior Policy Analyst for Lieutenant Governor Mark Singel and served on the Rendell Administration’s Education Department Transition Team. He began his public service in 1985 as a Economic Development Policy Analyst with the Ben Franklin Partnership in what was then the Pennsylvania Department of Commerce.
A graduate of Franklin and Marshall College with a Bachelors Degree in Government, he was awarded a Fellowship to the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University where he earned a Masters Degree in Politics and Public Policy. He also participated in the first class of Education Policy and Leadership Center Fellows.
Wakeley and his wife, Laura, live in Lancaster and have one adult son.
